It is with a great sorrow that we must inform you all of the passing of our friend, comic book creator Lee Moder, at the age of 53. Lee died quietly, in his own home, sometime on or before January 15th 2023. The exact cause is yet to be determined.
Proudly born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Lee graduated with an art degree from La Roche University and began his career in comic books with a gig at Malibu Comics in 1992. Before long, he made himself a staple at DC Comics, with runs as penciller on such titles as Wonder Woman, Legion of Super-Heroes, Batman: The Last Angel and Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E. It was for the latter title that Lee co-created the character of Stargirl with writer Geoff Johns.
Over his lengthy career, Lee would also work on such titles as Painkiller Jane, X-Factor, Highlander, Red Sonja, Kicking Ice, Heroes of Homeroom C, and, alongside writer and friend Ron Marz, the books Dragon Prince and Shinku.
Lee will be remembered by his friends as a loveable curmudgeon who was a voracious fan of the sci-fi and action genres, current affairs and stand-up comedy, particularly loving Mystery Science Theater 3000, all things Star Wars and the wit and wisdom of George Carlin.
A private memorial service is being planned. Fans who wish to honour Lee’s memory are encouraged to donate to the Hero Initiative at hero initiative.org.
